Whether you need a little nurturing or just want some peace and quiet, our B&B is a warm, safe place to stop for a comfortable rest, and most suitable for a relaxed rural retreat for extended stays! It is suitable for one single person or a couple.
Drape yourself over a comfortable piece of furniture by the fire in cooler weather and enjoy tasty treats or take a stroll to see which bird-calls you can identify. Warm winter afternoons provide a chance to doze in the sun on a couch on the deck with a good book (and we have WiFi if you must). Summer opens up more outdoor possibilities from relaxing near the pool to undertaking one of several walk options, including the challenging walk to Mt Wilson for 360 degree views or a stroll along the nearby beach of the Conway Flat.
Cabbage Tree Cottage B&B is shared with a couple of West Highland terriers referred to as “the wee white antidepressants", so if you're distressed by dog hair and the type of occasional chaos life with these two comedians brings this isn't an ideal place. Of course we're pet friendly but please be sure to read our “pooch policy" (on our website) if you'd like to consider that option.
Queen size bed in a cosy room
TV (freeview) and DVD player in your room
Private bathroom with bath, shower & hairdryer
Separate private loo
Warm fluffy robes, scuffs and towels
Breakfast goodies will be waiting for you in the dining room in the morning, or a more substantial cooked brunch can be arranged, depending on your mood.
Stove top espresso coffee (with a touch of cinnamon) is available as well as seriously chocolaty hot chocolate, or a selection of teas and herbal infusions.
A wonderful open veranda to relax on and enjoy the wonderful sunsets and singing birds!
In sharing our home, you'll have plenty of time to interact with us and we love sharing stories with guests. We're more than happy to leave you alone as well, as most people come here for some peace and quiet. (It's the serenity!) We like our guests to feel relaxed and part of the family. Having lived and worked in the area for over 30 years, we're able to let you know about other local attractions that make ideal half day and day trips, or the best place to hide and read a book, and can even lend you a spare yoga mat.
All running water on the property is filtered and UV treated.
The Staging Post is a rural retreat with plenty of bird call sounds at dawn and dusk. This atmosphere is enjoyed best with a quiet drink in the early evening. Loud parties, loud music and loud people are not encouraged (though loud laughter is as welcome as local bird calls). We only allow pets if the owners have contacted us first and read the "pooch policy" at (URL HIDDEN) carefully and will not allow any dog owners to stay without having read and complied with those conditions at least 2 weeks prior to their arrival. We'd prefer it if you didn't smoke at all, and smoking inside never allowed.

The Staging Post is a rustic rural retreat and your host Linda, a foodie and an artist, enjoys sharing this little piece of paradise with local and overseas visitors on a regular and relaxed basis. Note the "rustic" part - you'll need a sense of humour at times! Linda has a website for The Staging Post Rural Retreat in North Canterbury where you can find out more about us and the local area.
