Travis is absolutely the most awesome host! He was quick to communicate and really flexible. He calls before the trip to go over (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps and make suggestions for fun things to do during your stay. The highlight of our trip was meeting him and his daughter when they brought the horses. He spent hours giving pony rides to all 6 kids in our group (ages 2-8). The horses are really well trained and perfect for all ages and abilities. The ATV's were also a fun extra. Travis' family has a long, interesting history in the area which he is eager to share with his guests. He genuinely a nice person and we are so happy to have met him! We made lots of good memories here. The house is set in a beautiful high desert location with great views all around. It's very private and quiet. The kids loved playing in the creek and roaming free. The house has been updated with new flooring in the main area, new cabinets in the kitchen and cedar on all the walls. Travis has lots of fun plans for the place so the upgrades are ongoing and some of the small details are unfinished. The bathroom is still in progress and the shower was an adventure that we never conquered. The water pressure is very low and sometimes slows to a trickle. The water here has a high mineral content which has a distinct smell and stains the tub/sink/toilet. Travis assured me that it has been tested and is safe and he provides bottled drinking water during your stay. This house is different than other places we have stayed in that the host uses it often so you can expect to see their personal items in the shower, around the sinks and in the cabinets and refrigerator. The house is about 25 min to Wells, 45 to Elko and a good base camp for exploring the East Humboldt range and Ruby Mountains. The accommodations in this area are limited and this is certainly a great value if you are adventurous and enjoy a country lifestyle.
Thank you, Kristin, for you kind feedback and your suggestions for improvements! I agree with each of your items and will make the changes and fixes. I plan to trim the bathroom in pine and replace the caulking or retile the shower. The water pressure drops when the toilet is flushed and I will check with a plumber on how to fix that. I am glad that you had a good experience and hope that you can come again!
What an amazing experience!!! Travis was amazing. My family and I were traveling cross country and needed a place to stay and as late as it was Travis still responded and took us in. I can't say enough about the home. It's tucked in a mountain with the most breathtaking views. Every where you looked all you saw was beauty. The house was immaculate. Waking up to see the views and hear the creek running was spectacular! We went in small hikes, and lovely drives on the land. I would recommend this place a hundred times over and we can't wait to come back and visit.
