The house has several genuine antique pieces of furniture and some original artworks. The furniture is custom-made from recycled wood or from fallen trees. All the wrought-iron pieces were made by a local craftsman.
A gloriously luxurious medieval house inside the castle of Obidos. It consists of three double bedrooms, one gigantic bathroom with jacuzzi tub, one downstairs bathroom with shower and one en-suite WC. There is a comfortable living room, dining room and patio with outdoor furniture and bbq. The medieval style kitchen has all the modern comforts of a fridge, dishwasher, microwave, Nespresso coffee machine etc. We also have a little wine room with local wines for you to sample and enjoy (they are price-marked for your easy reference).
The house contains some genuine antique pieces of furniture (17th and 18th century) and artworks by local artists as well as Avril Ward, internationally known artist based in the Cayman Islands.
Every care has been taken to ensure that materials for the restoration of the house were locally sourced and hand-made, even the kitchen cabinets and chandelliers, wall-sconces etc.
The actual house is quite magical, with thick walls and wide window-seats, just like a real medieval home.
Guests are all met and greeted and shown around by our English and Portuguese speaking manager. Shopping can be done ahead for you and placed in the fridge ahead of your arrival.
Please note there is an extra charge for the gas required for the underfloor heating. In the Winter months, should you feel you require heating please do mention it so we can order enough gas.
There is parking right outside the house but driving in the castle can be difficult as the roads are narrow. It's best to park the house outside the castle walls - luckily the house is within walking distance of the entrance.
The castle has many wonderful pastry shops, upmarket as well as casual restaurants and coffee shops, local arts and crafts shops and even artist studios to visit. Obidos castle also hosts an annual chocolate festival and a medieval festival. In addition it has an organic market every weekend where local produce is sold.
The castle is on a bus route and there are several buses/coaches to Lisbon every single day.
There are marvelous restaurants within walking distance and gorgeous little medieval pubs. The castle itself is magnificent. In fact, it's like taking a holiday in a fairy-tale!
You get to rent the whole house without intrusions from owners or landlords. The house is completely self-contained.
Our house manager will be available to assist you throughout your stay. He speaks excellent English. Please feel free to contact him from the house telephone for any information.
Please let us know if you would like to pre-order gas for the underfloor heating. The cost of these are 150 euros each and they should last about 4 days if the heating is kept permanently on. We do need to order ahead of time so it's imperative that you please give us some notice.
Please note there is a medieval well which small children should not be allowed to lean into.
