Located only 5 minutes from arguably 'the most' breathtaking surf breaks in Bali; this eco-conscious living property would be best enjoyed by travellers or surfers with the environment, nature and the culture of Bali at the top their interest list.

ที่พัก

This is nature reserve; a permaculture farm set alongside eco-friendly accommodation. It's for those of you who like getting as close as it gets to nature and Bali's culture without forsaking the majority of your western comforts. It's a relaxed space particularly suited to single travellers. You'll also get to know other chill expats and travellers as we have many wonderful friends and long term guests.

Our focus on all guest rooms is quality and eco sustainability. The fan-cooled rooms are furnished with high quality mattresses, custom made coconut wood slat bases, and hypo-allergenic pillows and bedding. Rooms are serviced for cleanliness weekly.

Green Tara permaculture acreage is tickled by the cool sea breezes. It is located at the end of one of Pandawa Beach's long hilly roads leading away from farmlands into the main village where Green Tara is. When night falls, geckos laugh and cicadas sing, beckoning the stars to set in. It is a completely private eco permaculture property. Everyday we're setting up new composting, edible gardens, and a vista of tropical flowering plants. Or harvesting the fruits and vegetables we've grown.

When we began this Eco project in March 2013, we did it with the vision of providing an inspiring space to offer our gratitude to all Bali has given and continues to give us, and everyone who comes here. While also offering a relaxed environment to meet, go surfing, or just relax in the garden chill areas. We have a modern kitchen, and some of the bathrooms have been renovated with hot water. In the hotter months you may prefer to use our eco friendly cold showers that not only clean you, but water the garden at the same time.

The property and gardens is less than 3 years old. Rooms are cleaned weekly and are in immaculate condition. It has edible gardens to enjoy, an outdoor communal kitchen and lounge / library area equipped with DVD, TV, HDMI cables and loads of awesome books.

สิ่งอื่นที่ควรรู้

There is no public transport in Bali. You will need to hire a scooter or hire a car if you stay here. I organise transfers to the property and can have scooters delivered from a trusted local outlet.

A course of lessons in riding a scooter are available for IDR 350K (approx 30 USD) for 3 lessons. If you've never ridden a scooter before, you'll need at least three days for lessons and to practise before you'll be ready to hit the busier roads.

Internet data for your device (Ipad, tablet or smart phone) is available for IDR 100K per 4 gig (Approximately 7 USD). There is also free wifi available 100 metres down the road at the local store.

There is plenty of opportunity to be social and meet wonderful new friends while staying at Green Tara. Sometimes there's chilled music with a beer in the garden at sunset - but please bear in mind it is not a party space. You can find somewhere to party within 15 - 30 minutes travel from Green Tara x 7 days a week. We can tell you what's on and where depending on the night.

*This is Bali, and it still has its share of developing community issues: there are regular electricity, water and internet outages. We have set up water catchment devices to ensure there is always access to bathing but please be mindful of the amount you use.

*We recycle and compost everything possible. So please be mindful of the quantity toilet paper you use and refrain from throwing it down the toilet as this causes blockages. The bathrooms throughout the property have a 'delicates' hose (a miniature shower for personal hygiene), and biodegradable soap.

*You are welcome to you the kitchen as long as you are prepared to clean up after yourself including separating your rubbish between the compost, recycling and general waste. All this will be explained in person - it's quite straight forward.

*Although highly unusual in Bali, this mostly non smoking property. There is a small smoking area by the entrance gate.

*We request that guests observe 'noble silence on the Green Tara nature reserve between the hours of 10pm and 9am every day of the week. At this time we ask that talking becomes a 'true whisper', and that laptop, phone noise, or music between these hours is only listened to through headphones. This allows everyone to go about their personal business (rest, meditation, morning cuppa, yoga etc) without the obligation of mindless chatter. It gives us all the opportunity to go to bed & start each day in a calm and mindful way. It's not super strict. You won't get in trouble if you forget. Just carry on with whatever you might otherwise do as quietly as you can manage. We introduced this because we've found that sometimes, living in a community like living space, everyone has their own needs for space, peace and quiet. Not everyone likes 'chatting' energetically in the morning for example. And many, being surfers, like to go to sleep early and not feel frustrated by loud movies or music during the night. It's just a rule in place to remind guests to be mindful of the needs others. It helps keep the good vibes good.

*Partying. I've been lucky that I only seem to attract friendly and interesting guests. So the opportunity to be social comes naturally here. Just understand, that while sunset beers and an acoustic guitar jam session in the garden are often the norm at dusk, it's 'not' a party place. Uluwatu bars are only 15 minutes away & Krazy Kuta is a mere 30 minutes by taxi (around $20) if you need that fix while you're here.

*All guests are expected to respect the local culture of this property and the village. This allows everyone who stays the opportunity to learn from and enjoy the utter beauty this gem location has on offer, while respecting the culture of the local community.

*The Balinese cafe across the road is super friendly and serves great, low cost local food all day, most days of the week. They will often deliver your food to the house. If they do this, show the respect they deserve and clean up the utensils and return them as soon as possible.

Neither too busy nor too remote. Location is accessible while removed far enough from 'developed areas' (still strong surrounding infrastructure including clean roads, running water, and reliable power supply. Most food is composted, rubbish collected every few weeks, be careful with recyclables because recycle program is intermittent and some inevitably is interpreted as trash) you may allow yourself solitude and silence or wake up with the sounds of birds, roosters, geckos and neighborhood dogs. Ample drinking water, fridge/freezer, gas stove top, full bathroom, wash, clothesline, seating space, lounge space, bookshelf (also bring books of course), surfboard storage, motorbike parking, room to witness rich tropical living and a few surprises for everybody. Local village is mostly balianese folks but you won't get looked at as an alien if you arrive with fairer skin. Rice and noodles literally across the street provided by exceedingly sweet family, market around the corner and larger markets few km away. Access to beaches with southerly aspect. Some days you would think more grows on this property than most places around the globe, some days you can find the courage to start from scratch once again. Two balianese gentelmen maintain clean floors, tend garden beds, facilitate facilities improvements, and make the place all right.

The Greentara is a lovely homestay for longterm-guests. We felt very welcome from the beginning. Tommy and Made are very friendly and help us with everything. We love the chillout-area and the garden where we can pick up fresh fruits, also the rooms are very nice and get cleaned every week. It's a very relax homestay for those who like to live close to the best surfspots and don't want to live in the very touristic areas of Bali. And for those who don't surf there are very nice and secret beaches very close. The scooter rental with Tommy is very easy, he gave us also some lessons at the beginning to get into the Balinese traffic.

The only impression I had of Green Tara were the pictures on Airbnb and the very nice chat I had with Raquel before coming to Bali. In preparation of my stay Raquel gave me a lot of information about the place and surrounding and answered me every question I had and I had a lot. She also invited me and the other guests to join her for a wedding before she even met us. Without doubt I booked a room in Green Tara for four month directly. Green Tara is the perfect place if you like it quiet and want to stay in a small village with the locals. You must try the Warung just in front of Green Tara, it’s the best place to eat local food on Bali. Also it’s a perfectly located for surfers. All perfect breaks around and also Uluwatu is just 20 minutes by scooter. The scooter thing: Of course you need a scooter on Bali! There is no better way to explore the island and to get around. They also provide Scooters for all guests. Green Tara has everything you need for a peaceful, chilled and fun time. If you want something different to the mass tourism in Kuta you should definitely come and stay at Green Taran. You will feel the vibes and chilled atmosphere as soon as you arrive. I can recommend this place to everyone! Cheers and thanks Green Tara for having me!

Very disappointing, we arrived to a unkempt garden, a dirty kitchen and a messy common area. Set in a noisy suburb that's a long walk from the beach.

Wow. I met you guys on your last day and you didn't tell me anything about your issues with our property on arrival. As you know, I arrived the last day. My understanding was you were happy there, and you understood we were in a transitioning period from a full house of long term residents. So while the kitchen may have not been up to what you had hoped - it was a brand new kitchen - as opposed to the basic cooker stove corner advertised in Air BnB. I can only apologise that the kitchen and common areas were not as clean as they ought to have been. In terms of the garden. I'm a little confused. Perhaps you are not familiar with tropical permaculture gardens. We had tomatoes, rocket, passionfruits, pineapple, kale, Aloe vera and spinach growing everywhere. There is nothing in our advertisement about a short walk to the beach and it's clearly stated that a scooter is required. Again, I wish I had of known about your bad experience sooner. Thanks for your feedback, I'll pass it onto the staff.

Writer, nature loving, people ponderer. I live on an amazing eco property in Bali's far south with my Balinese family. We're creating a tropical permaculture farm here. These days I spend most of my spare time planting seeds - both literally and metaphorically - with my Balinese partner Tommy, who grew up in nearby Uluwatu. I bought a motorcycle and named her Phylis. She gets a lot of attention around The Bukit. And rightly so - she's pretty hot.

I have listed three properties on Air BnB.

1. The place where I live - Beachside Permaculture farm & villa

2. My friend Pakir's family compound of 5 self contained studios in Ubud.

3. My Balinese family's beach shack - a guest house directly on the beach.
