This review actually made me laugh out loud in a sad sort of way. I certainly hope that this young man finds his way.
He shows up on the doorstep with a bunch of bags and explains that he's "between apartments" but when I asked where he was moving to...he hadn't a clue. Essentially, he was couch surfing at the local university until he got caught and kicked out. He couldn't return to his parents (didn't ask, but should have) and decided to Airbnb until he found something. Our place is listed at $159/night. He immediately started asking if I would be interested in a long term arrangement outside of Airbnb for $70/night. I tell him we don't EVER go outside Airbnb or reduce that low.
He was NICE and POLITE and I took pity. I DID offer to help him out, showed him all three of our Airbnb places and offered to reduce to $100/night if he stayed for 30 days or more and allow him to stay wherever we had vacancy. He extended his stay for the duration that he could afford--12 nights and we reduced from $2200 to $1500. We had one night with full occupancy but we would allow him to return the following day.
One day into the reservation, he texts and says that the cable is out. According to our cable service (who he works for), our cable ISN'T out, but no signal is reaching the box. I tell him this. My husband takes off work, goes to the loft...and he doesn't even get out of bed to let him in. My husband keys in and finds that our TV has been replaced with a larger TV and gaming system. And, in the process, a wire wasn't reconnected properly.
Our neighbors reported several people entering our unit--he was supposed to be a single guest. He admitted that he had 3 friends stay with him the entire time.
And, upon arrival to clean the place, I was pleasantly surprised on first glance that it was clean.
Except, upstairs there was blood and marijuana all over 3 comforters across 3 beds and all 6 pillows. I had to throw them away. In the bedroom downstairs a similar scene--bloody stains all over the bed. These weren't just visitors...they were completely disrespectful--not even taking time to put sheets on the beds.
THAT'S when I immediately messaged him that we would no longer be able to accommodate him. But it doesn't end there.
He calls and argues, then begs for us to give him "another chance." When I explain that we can not permit someone who lied about his numbers and circumstances (he can afford TVs and gaming consoles and marijuana but can't pay even half price) to stay in our place...then he gets angry and slams our review.
He's correct, it was the kindness of my heart that extended him an opportunity, but kindness should never be taken as weakness. Some lessons are learned the hard way. I encourage any one who reads this to read the MANY positive reviews we have and realize that this one was written by a wounded soul who is still figuring life out. I wish him all the best and hope that he finds his way.
There, of course, is laundry in the building. The basement had flooded because of horrible rains and the gym is being replaced.
