We had a wonderful stay at John's flat. It was my first experience with Airbnb, and I was quite nervous, but John was incredibly communicative and bent over backwards to answer my questions and help with all our requests. The apartment was very clean and comfortable. While I never met John personally, I can't over-emphasize how responsive and friendly he was via email including moving new furniture into the flat because I needed a desk and providing us with an extra set of keys for my 13yo son who loved the freedom to come and go as he pleased while I worked.
The neighborhood was quite lively with all the restaurants and shops that we needed. Everything was open late and you could hear people leaving local pubs and bars. The was also a great independent cinema a few blocks away. While I wouldn't recommend the area for visitors who like seclusion and deep quiet, it never felt unsafe or too rowdy during the day/early evening and I allowed my son to wander the neighborhood, go to the park and take the many convenient buses to the city centre. I found the people who worked and lived nearby to be friendly and helpful in learning to navigate public transportation, giving walking directions and generally learning more about Oxford and the UK.
The flat itself was a little small for me + teenage son (because we used the main room as both living/kitchen and second bedroom space) However, it would be absolutely perfect for a couple who only needed one bedroom. In any case, it all worked out fine and I doubt we could have found a larger apartment at an affordable price point. My only other difficulty was that the B&B was really set up for people spending a few days in Oxford while we spent a whole month. So it initially needed a few things like coffeepot, dish-rack & more hangers. But again, John was really responsive and helpful and we were soon all set up for a very pleasant, comfortable and FUN stay. There were fireworks and a neighborhood street festival with families, musicians, performers and general partiers on the first day that we arrived!
Thanks for everything, John!
