Our experience with Eagles Nest was one of extreme frustration and inconvenience. We were forced into extra expenses and we are still trying to get our refund. On arrival at the reception nobody knew about our reservation. It was booked by Audience in Harare, however, the staff in Gweru were not informed. To make matters worse the "host" was on leave and nobody could resolve our issues. At booking, I had asked if the lodge had 2 rooms that can accommodate 4 people. This was confirmed by Audience but turned out not to be the case. The lodges are separate and not ideal for a family with young children (you have to go outside to get to the second room which is la completely separate building!). We had to use one room on the first night so that we could all be together. Secondly there were no cooking facilities as promised by Audience at booking and when I mentioned it at reception they were surprised as that was not the norm. There is one kitchen for more than 20 lodges and it's only used by the chef. Arrangement to use it meant any access would be only when no meals were being prepared for other guests. After asking different people and getting different answers, the owner/manager was contacted on our 3rd day and agreed for us to use the kitchen (he didn't speak to us). The kitchen was below average standard with the fridge leaning backward and nearly falling. We were not comfortable putting any food in it and it was a couple of minutes walk outside in the dark to get to it.There was a football team on our third and final night therefore we had no access to it anyway. We expressed our disappointment in how everything was handled and decided to check out as this was causing a lot of distress and expenses eating out. The check out and refund of outstanding nights was agreed by the manager/owner and would be received within the week (again he did not speak to us). The cost of the lodge was again disputed at the reception as we were then told to pay double what we had already paid via AirBnB. I had to explain how AirBnB works and that the cost was calculated when we entered our details. This was also confirmed by Audience at booking. Again nothing could be done as it was a Saturday and we were given a number to contact a different person ( Mrs Rima) in Harare on the following Monday to discuss it as Audience was (and still is) on leave. We have phoned several time to chase this up with Mrs Rima and spent much of our holiday time and money whilst not receiving any help from anyone. We are still waiting for confirmation of our agreed refund. This has really spoilt our holiday. Eagles nest should not be listed on airbnb as they do not offer anything close to what is...
