If jumping off a 10 foot Diving Board into a crystal clear Lagoon sounds better than a cup of coffee, our DIving Booard Room is a perfect accommodation for you!

Our Eco-Retreat is one of Bocas Del Toro's best kept secrets. Located on the southern tip of Isla San Cristobal, the cabin is perched above a coral Reef. Fully engage with nature while enjoying the comforts of rustic charm.

Welcome to the beautiful island of San Cristobal!!!!

If jumping off a 10 foot diving board into warm, crystal clear water sounds better than a cup of coffee to you, you will feel right at home in this room. The diving board is literally steps from your bed, and we know its the best way to start your day.

This little hut is perfect for one or two, adventurous souls! Rustic living style where you can choose to be with, or away from technology! (yes, we have Wifi!)

The island has no roads or electricity but we do have solar panels and clean rainwater on tap.

Beneath you, there is lots of marine life: the water is teeming with our pet fish, swarms of sardines, starfish, sea cucumbers, anemones, dolphins (see them during the day, hear them at night), amazing coral and bioluminescent plankton at night!

Downstairs is a shared kitchen with refrigerator, stove, blender and running fresh water and a gas barbecue on the deck. Note: self catering is possible, but in high season the kitchen can get crowded, therefore we offer deliciously prepared meals for our guests on request.

There is a freshwater shower (biodegradable soap only, please!) at the cabin, and the composting toilet is a 2 minute walk, on the land. the sea.

A 5 minute boat ride (or half an hour kayak or an hour swim :-)) takes you across the bay where you can buy (limited!) supplies from a shop or visit Ernie for his famous fried chicken.

A 30-minute each way, $70 round trip boat ride will take you to the town of Bocas del Toro, which has over a dozen bars and restaurants, a fun backpacker party scene, some very good food, some not-so-good food, an airport, several small supermarkets, local fruit and vegetable stands, and lots of local color and diversity. A similar boat trip will take you to the mainland (Almirante), a jumping off point for extended trips to Panama's incredible cloud forest or Costa Rica.

Yep...There's much to do and see and experience!!

Guests will experience this fun little hut , while having access to the communal dock, equipped with Bar, Meal Service ( for guests only), Lounge, and shared kitchen amenities. (high Season limited access to kitchen, as restaurant services takes priority)

This cabin is above a shared space, the action on the dock doesn't really start around here until after 9:30 am to allow guests in The Reef Cabin the opportunity to sleep in. You will make friends quickly sharing your diving board! There is a ladder on the exterior of the building for visitors to access it, so don't worry about soggy footprints in your room.

We are here to answer any questions guests may have about the area, and off the grid living.

It's for the adventurous, who want reasonable comfort in a remote setting, and want to experience realities of rural life in the tropics. In addition to the abundant pleasures of the lush forests and reefs, you should expect to…..

GO OFF GRID: You will run out of running water if you take long showers or if the rains don't come. The solar panels are backed by a generator, but you'll need to remember to turn off lights and fans when not in use — especially when the clouds hang out for a few days.

WEAR BUG PROTECTION: We are bug conscious in the design of our accommodations. You will see dozens of geckos feeding on the insects on the outside of the screens that keep you nice and relatively bug free in the house. That being said, a layer of coconut oil, or bug spray can keep you comfortable during "Chitra Hour" when the no-see-ums come out at dawn and dusk. These critters are generally predictable, so its easy to be prepared

My husband and I had the best experience at Coco Vivo! From the time we booked the trip to after we left, Lazare and Carmen were the best hosts. We even extended our stay another night because we missed the private oasis. The accommodations are very comfortable, the food is fabulous, and the company is the best! Swimming in the bioluminescence at night is an experience that few places in the world offer but Coco Vivo has it! We were fortunate to be able to stay in 2 of the rooms and both had all the comforts of home with unbelievable views. I would recommend Coco Vivo to anyone and plan to return.

An amazing adventure. Once you are on the property you will not leave - days are spent snorkeling off the coast and exploring the jungle. Met wonderful people, ate great food (cooked onsite - not included in room fee), and loved the entire stay. Bug spray is a must !!

This is a beautiful, bungalow type place surrounded by a beautiful reef. We would definitely go back! We didn't meet the owners but the caretakers were fantastic and made us feel right at home.

Awesome place to stay in Bocas town! Close to everything in town and tucked away on a side street across from the ocean. Perfect place!

The place is isolated, but you can get to places by boat, and Ulrich will have someone take you to places, like Zampita (sp?) islands. We didn't go, we kayaked to some cool places, snorkeled, etc, right around the area. Two cool things: the bioluminescence and the 600 year old tree. It rained a lot when we were there, so we missed the trek through the jungle, but I think it would be fantastic. Ulrich picked us up from Bocas and to our next destination for free. Other places charged upwards of $20 per person. Overall, a great time!

No words, pictures, or videos can truly capture Cocovivo’s sense of place. From the moment we booked the trip we knew this would be a one-of-a-kind experience, going there only cemented that idea. Staying at Cocovivo reinvigorates your connection with the environment; you are IN nature. You see the stillness of the water at night, wake up to the sounds of a million different moving parts in the morning, and spend the day with unique people from all different backgrounds. The setting is a melting pot of bright colors and materials from the surroundings - from hammocks to plants to woodwork. Distinct and individual accommodation choices/landscaping were created in harmony with the location, doing justice to the island itself. Coming to Cocovivo will reopen yourself up to the simplicities of the world, of what you actually need, and inspire you to look for ways to channel that idiosyncratic way of thinking back into your daily life. One day you might be wading waist deep through a stream in the jungle, looking for snakes, sloths and monkeys before suddenly finding yourself at a hilltop, unaware of the view that you were working your way towards until you’re there. The next day you might be sitting on the beach enjoying the best taco you’ve ever had (Nacho Mama’s Taco Stand or something? Highly recommend!). Another day you might kayak with Capitan leading “your ship”, chasing jellyfish and dolphins, navigating through a labyrinth of mangroves. You might spend the night on the deck over the water hearing stories from Israel, Belgium, and Panama. There is no shortage of things you may do, see, or hear at Cocovivo! Lazare and Carmen were astounding hosts who were responsive to all the questions we had before arriving and after. They interacted with us our entire trip, which we loved! It felt like coming to hang out with long lost friends. Lazare was also extremely knowledgeable, he knew something about everything we saw and every place we went; you don’t feel like a tourist at a resort, you get to feel part of the local world. It was clear that Cocovivo has been a labor of love for Lazare and for Carmen; from the food to the curtains, they care about making it the best it can be and maintaining high standards to ensure that it is. Of all the places you may go in the world, be sure Cocovivo is one of them.
