This stunning, sun-drenched and airy 2-BR duplex that was recently renovated with all natural materials to created an environment for clean healthy living with a low carbon footprint. This historic 1889 brownstone was painstakingly renovated using green materials and according to ecological energy saving standards. It features huge windows and during the day the house is flooded with natural light. The windows are triple pane glass - keeping the space warm in the winter and cool in the summer, as well as draft free and quiet - with gorgeous naturally finished Douglas fir frames. The original floors were refinished with natural oil and white pigment and they give the house a bright and rustic feel. There is a clean air heat recovery ventilation system that ensures that the air is always fresh without having to open any windows when it it too cold or hot outside. Interior insulation and air sealing will keep the house at a good temperature for most of the year. Additionally, there is are fans installed in the living room and the master bedroom and there is air conditioning.
LIVING / DINING ROOM
The parlor floor consists of one huge open loft-like living space with high ceilings and large windows on two sides that can be used for entertaining or just relaxing in a comfortable space. Two large glass doors lead to a large deck in the back that also offers access to the backyard.
The kitchen is open to the dining area. It has all new high end appliances (Bosch, Miele, Wolf, Bertazzoni) including an induction cooktop. The countertops are made from salvaged joists from old houses in the neighborhood. There is a large kitchen island that provides plenty of space for preparing food and entertaining.
The parlor floor also has half bathroom. The bedrooms and the main bathroom are located on the top floor of the house.
BEDROOM 1 faces the garden side of the house. It features a queen-sized bed, a chest of drawers, and ample closet space. The two windows give the room plenty of natural light during the day.
BEDROOM 2 faces the street side of the house on a quiet block. It features a comfortable full-sized bed and a small desk and a closet.
In addition to these bedrooms there is a queen-sized sofa bed in the living room that can be used if you have more than 4 people staying.
DECK / GARDEN
On the 8’ x 19’ deck is a gas BBQ and a table with chairs for 6 people. Stairs lead down to the garden, which is shared with the downstairs apartment. In the back a bluestone patio with a fire pit offers another area to hang out. A double hammock can be hung between the trees and a charcoal BBQ is also available. There is also a sandbox for kids.
Guests will be able to access the entire apartment except for our office.
We will not be on the premises but will be available via telephone and email at any time. Our neighbors and our handy man will be available for questions and if there is a problem.
We have a crib, a high chair and other baby items that can be made available upon request.
Please no shoes in the house.
