(PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW IN FULL)
The White Hart is one of the classical historic buildings in Canterbury with wooden beams, a large fireplace and a colourful background. We are well placed for exploring the area, with the beautiful Dane John Gardens next door, the Great Stour Way river walk 5 minutes away and major attractions such as the Canterbury Tales Museum and Canterbury Cathedral all within a 10 minute walk. We host regular events such as our quiz (Tuesday) and live music on the last Friday of each month (blues, acoustic, folk), but are best known for our pies and large beer garden. We are a dog friendly pub and we also have an old pub dog of our own, for this reason, if you have a fear or allergy of dogs then staying with us may not be for you.
The room has been lovingly decorated to provide a fresh, spacious and unique stay. It is full of character with its exposed beams, decorative fireplace and the characteristic wonky floors and walls associated with old buildings. There is a shared modern bathroom but no shared living space or kitchen in the accommodation, the room has therefore been equipped with basic cooking facilities to allow guests to prepare their own food. Alternatively you can head downstairs with the 20% discount we give our guests on food and have our chefs cook for you! Breakfast is included in your stay and brought to your room, that can be a basic continental (Cereal, toast & jam and fruit) or a full cooked English breakfast, just select what you would like the night before using our form. Tea and coffee facilities are provided in the room.
Room features include:
Lockable door, Freeview TV, DVD player, Wifi, hairdryer, fridge with small freezer, and a blackout blind. Tea, coffee and milk provided.
We also have a range of board games downstairs and an outdoor pool table available for your entertainment (when available).
The pub opening hours are 12pm-11.30pm Mon-Fri and 11am- 11.30pm on weekends (9pm on Sundays), however, on particularly busy nights (e.g Saturday) we may on occasion remain open until 12pm. Guests can come and go between these times as they please, if you would like to start your day earlier or return home later after a night out, it's no problem, just let us know in advance so we can let you in/out. If you arrive in Canterbury earlier than the check in time, we are happy for you to leave your bags with us.
Guests can spend time in our beer garden in the summer, lounge on our sofas and sit in front of the log burner fire on those cold winter evenings.
As a young couple running a business David and myself are busy people, having said that, we are also both chatty and sociable so, time permitting, would enjoy chatting with you with a drink at the bar. At the same time we understand that not all our guests are visiting Canterbury for leisure so are equally happy to let people have their own space.
-PARKING: The pub itself does not have parking. We would highly recommend not bringing your car to Canterbury City Centre, everything is within easy reach and parking can be notoriously difficult here. In addition we have a car hire company very close by. If you do decide to drive here then there is cheap 24hr parking at Canterbury East Station (a few minutes away) or several pay and display carparks nearby.
-The building is hundreds of years old and this unfortunately comes hand in hand with low doorways throughout parts of the accommodation so mind your head!
- The staircase to access the upstairs accommodation is small, curved and somewhat steep, it can therefore be a little awkward to get up and down. We will obviously help you if you have large bags but for this reason, and the afore mentioned slightly wonky floors, we do not recommend our room for people who are physically limited in some way or that struggle with stairs. (Details on fire escape routes are provided in the room).
-We are a small and quieter pub, located in a more tranquil area of the city centre. In addition, measures have been taken to minimise noise transfer within the building. Bearing these factors in mind, guests must still be aware that... it is a pub! It will not be peaceful all the time, on busy nights you are likely to hear noise from downstairs and we host a popular weekly quiz night. If you embrace the atmosphere of these nights and join us downstairs then you will definitely enjoy yourself! We have a beer delivery on Thursday or Friday mornings between 7-10am that can be loud, this is something to bear in mind prior to booking.
***Unfortunately we cannot accommodate anyone under the age of 18***
-No access areas include the office and commercial kitchen and bar downstairs.
-Strictly no smoking inside the building (covered smoking area outside available).
-Upon booking, guests are agreeing that they have read the room description in full and that they will read the fire escape plans and details provided in the room upon check-in.
We are a relaxed and friendly place that just wants people to enjoy their stay with us!
