ที่พัก

All five guest rooms in this remodeled historic landmark have private bathrooms and reading chairs or desks. Three rooms have queen beds, and two rooms have king beds:
The STUDIO is a bright and expansive environment with a prairie influence. A cathedral ceiling, skylights and natural linens on a king-size bed comprise a former art studio. Separating the suite's two rooms is an original exposed brick wall. Guests can retreat to the bath's sky-lit standard whirlpool tub and then unwind in front of the stove fireplace. The second bedroom has a twin bed and a roll-away bed available.

The TAP ROOM was once a popular tavern in which carriage travelers stopped for spirits. Twin beds, claw-foot bubble bath tub for two, stone shower, stove fireplace and dart board complete this historic gem located on the lowest level of the Guest House.

The PARKSIDE is an inviting first-floor guest room filled with the morning and afternoon sunshine and queen bed, plus a twin pull-out. The original pine floor and crisp blue and white linens add to this room's warmth and charm. No in-room television but great for reading.

The COZY ROSE is a quaint guest room with an antique bed, pale rose walls, and a beautiful floral pattern on the linens. A natural stone fireplace, velvet reading chair, wet bar and a single-person whirlpool bath add to the romance of this room; without a TV, there's more time for reading.

ECOVISTA is a light, airy guest room with a complete environmental emphasis from the floors to the fabrics, to the fixtures. Natural fiber sheets and organic towels, wool carpet, natural tiles, low flow devices and energy-saving fixtures are just some of the features. The room has a TV, DVD and CD player. ECOVISTA also offers a great view of the Arboretum.

There are three natural gas fireplaces including the STUDIO, TAP ROOM and COZY ROSE and a wood burning fireplace in the sitting room. The sitting room also has a movie and book library and TV hutch just off the kitchen. The kitchen has a cook-top, oven, refrigerator and microwave. The heated porch creates a new gathering and dining area. Naturally, there's air conditioning and WiFi that is password protected and a printer to connect to your laptop.

The place was beautiful and perfect for having a big family or multiple families together. We were in WI for a family reunion and this place turned out to be a great property for us. John is a great host and accommodated our needs right away. We are really appreciative of his hospitality!

We were a group of 11 coaches, athletes, and parents attending the USTA trampoline and tumbling nationals in Madison. Our stay at the Premier Guest House was perfect for our group. The house has so much personality, charm, and history. The five guest rooms were all unique and suited each guest perfectly. The garden, fishpond, and ivy around the property was beautiful. The house is located nearby to some great restaurants and shops. John and Cathie were great to work with and always responded quickly. I would highly recommend this location for anyone traveling to Madison!

This is an absolutely gorgeous property, and John was a tremendous host. We were traveling with 4 adults and 3 kids (ages 1-7), which can be a roll of the dice. John was incredibly accommodating. The house itself was large, and though you cannot really tell in the pictures, it is more like 4 separate sleeping spaces, so even though babies were crying and kids were acting crazy, others in the house were unaffected, which is nearly impossible to find on the road. There is a lovely courtyard with a fish pond, where the kids were allowed to feed the fish (to their delight), and a great neighborhood bar/grill right next door with delicious food. John left us juice, yogurt, and other treats for our stay, and a complete washer/dryer with detergent and fabric sheets. It was really a home away from home, and we were all very comfortable. We will most certainly be back, and for a longer stay next time. There is a lot to see in Madison, and we just barely scratched the surface!

*The following press release provides more background and celebrates our 20 years of providing award-winning hospitality while serving as a model for sustainable business:

MADISON – In spring 1994, John & Cathie Imes took the first step towards developing a pioneering bed-and-breakfast concept – an urban environmental inn. They purchased the Plough Inn, a former stagecoach tavern in the early days of Wisconsin’s statehood that had been a private residence for many years, before it was developed into a bed& breakfast inn. The Imes bought the fledgling business on Monroe St. and immediately set out to improve operations while showcasing an environmentally friendly approach. Twenty years later, their mission of providing the art of hospitality while serving as a model for sustainable business remains intact.

“We were fortunate to start a business where working together as a couple, raising a family, and sharing a vision of hospitality, sustainability and responsibility could happen,” said John Imes, co-owner of the Arbor House with his wife Cathie. “We’re grateful to so many in the community for helping achieve that vision over the last twenty years”.

Highlights of the Arbor House over the years include:
•National award-winning Annex: A 3,600-square-foot annex connected to the original inn by a landscaped courtyard features an exposed timber frame, arbors, balconies and flooring made from century-old Douglas Fir salvaged from the original Sears building in Chicago. Other features include: Foot-thick walls are made from recycled wood and concrete. Hot water runs through pipes under the floors for heating. Ceramic tiles are made with recycled glass. The annex is oriented to the south for solar gain; window glass is energy efficient. Other materials are low-toxin, including paints, linens and naturally dyed wool carpeting. The bathroom water fixtures are low flow, but visitors can still relax in one of five whirlpool tubs. Landscaping is based on native plants that don’t require much water or any chemicals. A staircase is built from birch and maple from Wisconsin’s Menomonee Indian forest, one of the nation’s best managed sustainable forests.

•Historic Rehabilitation: Built in 1853, the historic landmark Plough Inn building was preserved by a major rehabilitation the Imes initiated and completed over five years. The work included a complete facade restoration, new fixtures and mechanicals, plus substantial interior remodeling that integrated sustainable design, green remodeling and the preservation of historic resources. The project was certified by the Secretary of the Interior as meeting the high standards of a certified historic rehabilitation.

•Accolades: Arbor House has won the Boston Society of Architects’ prestigious “sustainable design” award and is listed on the National Green Pages, the largest annual directory of leading socially and environmentally responsible businesses. The Imes and their inn were also photographed for Money magazine when it named Madison as the most livable city of its size in the United States.” Travel & Leisure” “Healthy Living” and “Natural Home” magazines also provided national exposure, and Arbor House was featured as one of the top 10 Eco-Hotels on Fine Living television network. The Imes have also won a national Renew America award and Arbor House was named by Co-op America as a working example of one of the 15 “green businesses” that every community should have.

•Notable Guests: “Over the years, we’ve hosted tens of thousands of guests including a former U.S. Senator, governors, and other state and local officials, heads of national environmental groups and associations, media personalities, leading authors and keynote speakers for some of Madison's iconic events,” said Cathie Imes. “Meeting and having conversations with so many diverse and dynamic people making a positive impact on society has been a rewarding and unforgettable experience -- one our family will cherish for many years to come”.

•Model for Sustainable Business: In John’s work as a Co-Founder and Executive Director for Wisconsin Environmental Initiative (WEI), Arbor House serves as a valuable resource and “scratch test” for the development of sustainable business programs. For example, John was instrumental in developing WEI’s nationally recognized Green Built Home program, the first residential green building program in the Midwest, one that has certified over 8,000 homes and multi-family projects statewide. John also developed the Travel Green Wisconsin business certification program in partnership with the Wisconsin Department of Tourism. The program was the first state-wide ecotourism program in the country and received significant media attention with articles in The New York Times, USA Today, CNN, Chicago Tribune, Twin Cities Pioneer Press, and numerous Wisconsin news sources. More recently, John developed the Main Street Green program, a voluntary program that reviews, certifies, and recognizes Main Street businesses and organizations that have made a commitment to superior environmental performance. The program was launched on Monroe Street where the local merchants association and 26 businesses representing various retail, food & beverage and service establishments are making a strong commitment to superior environmental performance.

John, an MATC and Carroll College graduate, currently serves as an elected board trustee for the Village of Shorewood Hills and has served in various appointments and as an advisor to many national, state and local initiatives over the years. Cathie has an MBA and she manages the property with a staff of three. The Imes’ have four children – Jack, Cora, Ben and Grace.
