Tawharanui Open Sanctuary Guided Kiwi Walk (EVENING) Please note we do NOT do Auckland City pick ups and buses to Matakana can not get you back there late. This is a nature tour into an amazing bird sanctuary that just so happens to have one of Auckland's favourite surf beach's, campgrounds and walking trails! Come with me as I show you my 'back yard'. No really, I literally grew up here. My father was the Park Ranger here for over 30years, and lucky us got to live and breath Tawharanui as much as we wanted! This evening tour is a chance to hear and maybe even see the elusive nocturnal bird of New Zealand.... The Northern Brown Kiwi!! Bring: Your lovely selves and a quiet night time voice as to not scare these beautiful birds away. Quiet walking shoes - trainers but NO heavy hiking shoes or gumboots.

Departing from the Russell Wharf at 10am, we will sail out to one of the 144 islands that are only accessible by boat. On the way there we will do our best to spot our local wildlife; dolphins, penguins, sharks and our wonderful array of seabirds. Once on the island, we will spend an hour or two beach combing, hiking, kayaking, snorkelling or simply lounging in the sun! Since the Islands are bird conservation sites we will hopefully even spot a few native rare birds! After having a fresh lunch on board, we will then sail back to the Russell wharf to arrive around 330pm. Other things to note We need you to be at the Russell wharf at 9:45am for the safety briefing. As you drive up the circular driveway, we'll welcome you to our little farm. We'll give you some farm boots to use during your experience. First, you'll be taken to meet our friendly pony, iconic wool sheep & goats. They will come up to you for a pat and are happy to pose for a selfie/photo. Next well take a walk to see the ducks and rare breed chickens. Then it's a short walk to see the beautiful Hororhoro Bluff mountains, with friendly goats following along. Take some photos of the stunning farmland views. Then we'll walk through the orchard to be met by our mini horse and lager horses and scottish highland cattle. Lamb and calf feeding are available if we have orphan animals. Then you can feed the horses, cows, chickens, ducks, baby animals, turkeys, goats. Another nice chance to interact with the animals and take some photos. Egg collecting, fruit, or nut picking may be available in season. 100 percent of the proceeds of this tour go back to our rescue and farm animals. A horse/pony ride can also be provided for guests who would like to add to this unique farm experience, please send a message if you would like this as we will prepare your horse ready to ride. When you arrive on our beautiful farm and meet our friendly, naturally coloured Corriedale sheep & lambs. Followed by an explanation of how wool is shorn from the sheep, skirted, washed & dried. Next, guests will select their choice of wool, alpaca, lama and other fibres to card into large batts of fibre that are ready to process by spinning them into wool. After a spinning demonstration, guests will be able to practise spinning the fibre into their own ball of wool to take with them. If time allows they can try knitting or weaving and have a short walk around the farm to meet the other animals. This experience is suitable for beginners with no previous experience needed. Children can attend, just advise the age of the child, as I'll organise a child friendly wool activity for them. I'd like to make sure you have a fun, relaxing & unique experience that you will always remember. The scenery is spectacular and I am happy to take photos of you around the farm and with the animals. You can even select your own farm made hat as a free souvenir. Each hat is handcrafted, organically processed and shorn from our own sheeps wool, hand made and over 20 hours of work in each one. You will be guided through the felt-making process in a beginner style step-by-step. After we have laid out our wool, we will decorate the surface. This is the only way to get the most out of your visit to the wild Piha beach! Meet our group at The Pantry Cafe on Auckland's Viaduct basin. Grab your coffee/breakfast before we embark on our Piha Expedition. Relax in our luxurious Mercedes Sprinter van as we wind our way through the ranges towards the famous Piha. Stopping at some of the most scenic and high altitude lookouts Auckland has to offer. Upon arrival at Piha, we observe the severe flood damage as we venture onto the wild black sand beach at the North and South ends to explore the landscapes. We walk among the towering cliffs to find hidden tracks through the native forest. We carefully navigate many a massive sea cave and natural tunnels surrounding the areas. We will see native wildlife such as the Tui's and watch the colourful Rosellas in the forest, then we discover Little Blue Penguins deep in the caves. If we are lucky we will spot a Seal or Sea Lion! Would you like to spend some relaxing time with our friendly animals in the stunning volcanic backdrop of the Upper Atiamuri countryside. We have highland cattle, specialty wool sheep, horses, ponies, goats, chickens, ducks & more. Many of which are rescues. We'll take a stroll to meet and feed the animals and take some photos so you can remember this special experience. We'll be happy to explain some of the history of the area and talk about NZ farming, and a few stories along the way. I'm happy to answer any questions you have too. After many requests for a combination of our tours, this is a combination of two of our most popular. You will be able to take part in a hands on wool processing demonstration and interact with many farm animals and help to feed and pat them. We are proud that we are not a tourist farm, and can provide an authentic experience that will allow you to experience the NZ farm lifestyle and learn a bit more about the animals that we care for and experience the stunningly beautiful Atiamuri landscape. I'll take you to my favourite coffee spot or cafe if you want to get you some food. Coffees cost between $4-6 and food can be anywhere between $15-25. I work for a Maori current affairs show and have travelled the world. My partner has worked in Maori tourism for the past 7 years. **Previously I took tourists to Te Matatini - the olympics of Māori performing arts. That only happens every two years.

We'll start with a riding lesson where I'll walk you through the fundamentals of groundwork, balance, seat, shifting your weight, reigns, leg aides and some time for you to practice on our beginners horse. I'll be with your all the way. Next we'll take a relaxing walk around the farm to meet, pat and hand feed our animals. We have specialty wool sheep, Scottish Highland cows (fluffy cows), goats, Horses, and a mini horse, goats, ducks (sometimes ducklings), Chickens (often chicks to hold), a dog, and a few more to meet. I'm happy to answer any questions you may like to ask about farming in our area. If time allows we can take a short walk up a hill to see mountain range and take some photos. This is limited to 4-5 guests due to the riding time, but let me know if you have a larger group and we can extend the time and add more guests if needed. Private experiences are also available for bookings or special occasions. This combo has been asked for by guests and we are really proud to be able to offer it as a way for guests to enjoy a farm experience with two of our most popular activities. An amazing day learning to surf, at Te Arai beach. Auckland #1 east coast surf destination! Well meet up at the Te Arai Beach Reserve meet the team and get you in your wetsuit, and rash shirt! We'll go through an amazing 2 hr surf lesson! Learn about the waves, your surfboard and controlling it in the water Correct positioning, paddling and timing to catch that wave Then into the popup, surfing stance and surfing down the face of the wave Once you've got the basics we hit the water and are right there with you coaching you through each and every wave You'll be improving every attempt riding waves towards the beach and down the line of the wave. Proper surfing! Once your up and riding we'll quickly move into surfing down the wave and show you how to go faster and turn your surfboard on the wave! After the 2hr Surf Lesson youll have a 5 min break to rest, hydrate, sunblock up Then youll keep your surfboard and wetsuit and can carry on surfing after your lesson for another 2 hours, practicing what you just learnt to master the techniques. The whole beach and surfing experience is about 4-4.5 hours and is an amazing adventure and experience from beginning to end!
