A Taste of Braamfontein through its Art & Culture
Braamfontein - or just "Braam" to locals - is one of the most hip, cool, contemporary and culturally rich areas in the city! We meet at the courtyard inside 70 Juta Street - a collection of small stores selling vinyls, coffee, scrumptious foods, clothes etc.! From here, we head onto the streets of "Braam" where we trace its history, development and story while admiring the mixture of old and new buildings and the impact of the beautiful Street Art and Graffiti in the area. As we move along the streets, we chat about the day-to-day happenings of the area and how the migrant nature of the city's residents has played a role in shaping the way Braamfontein is today! Any walk in "Braam" is not complete without a stop at the Kalashnikovv Gallery - a gallery with a revolving door of artists, art, exhibitions and electic characters that add flavour to this neighbourhood! We finish off the tour at the iconic Kitcheners Carvery Bar (or just "Kitcheners" to locals) - it's the second oldest bar in Johannesburg, rich in history and a popular dive bar/locale among the cooler crowd of the city! With a history closely linked to the development of Street Culture in the city from 2000 onwards, this is a really cool experience to do if want to know more about the development of contemporary street culture in Johannesburg! NB! This experience ends at The Playground Market on Saturdays!
Soweto Bicycle Experience
Join me as we cycle through the vibrant & historical township of Soweto, Orlando east and west. We will start our bicycle tour on Vilakazi street, the only street in the world with 2 Nobel prize winners. We will visit the Nelson Mandela house, Desmond Tutu's house, Hector Pietersen museum, Winnie Mandela's house, and other attractions like the YMCA hall where Nelson Mandela used to train boxing in Orlando East. Please bring small bills to tip the guys selling and dancing outside these stops (The tips are optional, it is okay if you don't have or don't want to tip). We will have lunch in Orland East, our lunch is a Kota. A Kota is like a street burger. It is a loaf of bread cut into half, then into a quarter, then you fill it with fries, mini sausages, cheese, and a spicy salad. Kota is our ultimate favorite meal in Soweto. After lunch, we will cycle to the Soweto brewing company, passing through the township of Orlando East. At the Soweto brewing company, we will enjoy a refreshing beer-tasting experience (or soft drink). Once we are done at the Soweto brewing company, we will cycle back to the start. The route is easy, but hilly too. We do have safe parking if you are driving to the meet point.

Explore Johannesburg on a Skateboard - with a skate lesson
Our exciting and fun experience starts with a skateboarding lesson for first-timers/beginners which means that you don't need to know how to skateboard to join...we will teach you! Once done learning, we skate through Maboneng (one of the world's coolest neighbourhoods, 2018, Forbes) and the Jewel City Precinct which are both redefining life in the inner city. While in Maboneng and Jewel City, we also see some amazing graffiti and street art by both local and international artists such as Dbongz One (SA), Roa (BEL), DALeast (CHN) and Vhils (POR) to name a few! We then head off to see the city's origins in Marshalltown, where we see some of the city's oldest buildings, learn about the city's history from 1886 and hear about the non-racial "Kruger Liquour License" issued to select bars and what made it so special! We end off our experience in Newtown, which is home to the city's first ever multiracial cultural centre (The Market Theatre) and the city's best graffiti due to its association with street culture and the underground clubs found in the area! By the end of it all, you'll have a much better idea of the city of Johannesburg, it's history, what's going on now and how it came to be the way it is today! We think Johannesburg is dope and want to show you why we love it so much...the best part of it all...you'll do it from the fun of a skateboard!
