Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary
Every parrot has a story. You’ll learn all about our rainbow-colored rescues in Kona’s only parrot sanctuary. We’ll start with our mission: to give every displaced parrot a nutritious diet, large space to fly, and a safe place to interact with other parrots (and people). Next, we'll take a walk around the sanctuary, where you can get to know the range of personalities of cockatoos, lovebirds, macaws, and more species. Throughout the tour, you will have many photo opportunities, especially with our well-trained parrots. Other things to note: Wear casual clothes, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, and bring a camera. Parrots in Paradise Sanctuary is also home to two rescue dogs, two Holstein cows and two sulcata tortoise. While we like to keep our group sizes small to enhance a personal experience, we are open to hosting larger family/friend groups with more than six individuals.
Chocolate Coffee & Vanilla Farm Tour
Aloha and Welcome as we gather around the information table at Sharkey's 100-year old farmhouse in the historic plantation village of Papaikou. Sample our freshly brewed 100% Hawaiian coffee or cacao tea, grown right here on the farm. From there we begin an easy walk through our orchards where you'll learn about Hawaiian coffee growth and production. Interwoven the coffee are rows of cacao trees. Long, heavy vanilla vines grow up the cacao trees, nature's perfect trellis! We'll show you how each vanilla orchid is delicately hand-pollinated to produce long "hands" of vanilla beans. We'll then proceed to the "Slab" where the pods are 'cracked' before the fermentation process. Next we move into the greenhouse where flats of newly planted seedlings just beginning their journey grow alongside large screens filled with coffee and cacao beans slowly drying to perfection. Finally we'll move into our certified Chocolate Kitchen where the Magic happens! Who wants a taste? Free samples! Other things to note Refreshments (coffee/tea/water/juice) Tastings & Snacks Included Parents, please supervise young children at all times There are no stairs to navigate and the restroom is equipped with handrails Adults $75 + $3.75 tax=$78.75 Children $35 + $1.75=36.75

Mauna Kea hike and star gazing with Native Hawaiian
Aloha! 'O Christian Kealohapau'oleokealiiahōkūlani Phillips ko'u inoa. My name is Christian, and I am a native Hawaiian student at the University of Hawaii studying culture, language, history, astronomy, geology, and oceanography of the Hawaiian islands. The culture and ways of these islands is one of fun, adventure, love, family, sustainability, and I believe it will save the world. This Hawaiʻi immersive experience will begin at the kīpuka puʻuhuluhulu at the base of Mauna Kea, where we will learn about native Hawaiian birds, volcanoes, and Hawaiʻiʻs high mountain forests as we explore and hike through Puʻuhuluhulu. We will be engulfed by Hawaiian culture and it’s connections to Mauna Kea as we acclimate for the summit regions. Once we are ready we will travel to the Visitor center a few miles beneath the summit to begin our hike up to the top of Puʻu Kalepeamoa. On our journey together we will learn about the geology, it’s unique endemic plant species, and the many famous stories of the genealogies, chiefs, and Hawaiian gods that are synonymous with Mauna Kea. Once at the top of our hike we will watch as the sun sets into ocean in Kona and the stars rise in the east and begin to fill the sky. We will learn about Hawaiian stars and navigation and enjoy the art in the skies before closing our adventure.
Hamakua Coast Farm Tour - Lilikoi, Hawaiian Mamaki Tea
We will enjoy the farm views while we walk, talk and learn about Hawaiian Lilikoi and Mamaki Tea, as well as local history. Farm animals are also present for petting and feeding. You will pick some fruit and tea leaves to enjoy, have great photo opportunities at one of our many pergolas full of lilikoi vines or in the Mamaki Tea Garden. Once we walk the entire farm, we'll circle back to enjoy all the Mamaki you can drink. But that's not all. A flight of specialty Lilikoi items will be prepared for us all to sample together. We want you to leave with a full appreciation for small and diverse, natural farming, a new or renewed passion for two important Hawaiian crops of Mamaki Tea and Lilikoi fruit. If you only visit one farm during your trip, this is one whereby you can see many important and traditional Hawaiian crops in one place, as well as animals for the kids. Picnic tables and areas available if you choose to extend your visit for a bit.
