Multnomah Zen, a four waterfall scenic hiking experience
Multnomah Falls and other waterfalls and vistas of the Columbia Gorge are astonishing icons of geology, the sort that have inspired mythology and lore of warriors, gods and passions. We will drive out in our vans to meet the tallest waterfall in the state, and then drive to a few of the shorter but even more stunning ones, too; falls which could only be the daughters and sons of legend.
In this half-day experience, we will explore wonders with some short hikes (totaling less than 2.5 miles/4 km) and visits to overlooks and vistas that will have you gasping in awe. While Multnomah Falls and its iconic Benson Bridge are together the most-visited tourist attraction in the Portland area, they are only a part of our experience.
We will meet at our shop in inner SE Portland, where we'll ride in our comfortable Sprinter and Transit vans to the nearby gorge. Depending on weather conditions, we will visit a few small hidden waterfalls and spectacular plunge-style falls whose columnar basalt has us learning words for "amazing" in other languages.
We'll also tell you stories, geology, botany and oft-repeated tales of pioneers and road-builders, but also the old stories we've learned, of gods and wild spirits and about the oldest North American civilization, forever altered by “manifest destiny."
Please note we book directly as well as through AirBNB, and your group may be up to 10.

Forest hike to Twin and Snoqualmie Falls
This half day tour is a combination of a moderate 2-hour hike (a few inclines for five minutes) to the Twin Falls close up and a visit to the famous Snoqualmie Falls.
I will pick you up in downtown Seattle and drive eastward for about 30 minutes until we arrive at the trailhead. We will hike in old growth forest along Snoqualmie River to Twin Falls and the Upper Falls (1.3 miles), which is a beautiful cascade of waterfalls.
After the hike we will drive through North Bend, where the diner from the popular tv show "Twin Peaks" is located and through the historic logging town. Snoqualmie. The locomotives of the time are still on the railroad tracks and the old depot from the year 1890 is in use till this day.
We stop to view the Snoqualmie Falls of 270 feet - followed by driving along Borst Lake, where Mount Si is reflected in the often still lake - and then drive back to downtown Seattle.

Chef Tour of Pike Place Market
We will take you on a culinary tasting adventure of Pike Place Market. We will be stopping at 9 different artisanal vendors; learning about local production and tasting your way through the flavors of the Northwest.
Other things to note:
The tour takes place rain or shine. Please email if you have dietary restrictions.
Not all of our routes stop at the same places in Pike Place!
We do book private tours for 9-16 people. Please direct message us to learn more. Gratuity is not included in the price.
Our team also conducts a, more off the beaten path, tour on Fridays and Saturdays of South Lake Union.
There are small bites over many stops and limited places to sit down.
This experience requires a medium physical fitness level due to hills, stairs and uneven terrain. We do cover some distance and the market is crowded during the Summer.
If you have to drive and park please leave a lot of extra time in the high season. The lots do fill up.
Lastly, due to our tight schedule and wanting to show you as much of the market during a short time, we don't have time to shop during the tour. We encourage you to come back after the tour with your discount card to make purchases.
Mushroom Tour North Bend
We are going to explore the forest to seek out some of the most interesting mushrooms in the Pacific Northwest. Some mushrooms require very specific habitats to grow and I will help you learn to find them yourself.
We will hold, touch, smell, and maybe even taste a small piece of some mushrooms to identify them. I will point out the characteristics that I use for identification, as well as features that would help us differentiate from similar looking species. I will also tell you my process for selecting areas that are likely to have some of the most prized mushrooms like boletes, chanterelles, and morels.
We will spend about 2 hours walking through the forest both on and off trail. We will gather certain mushrooms for further inspection and if we come across cdibles, we can take a selection of these back with us as well.
It is difficult to predict when and where mushrooms are fruiting and I can't guarantee we will find large quantities of edible mushrooms. This is an educational trip first, and foraging only when the timing is right.
Please check my other experiences for locations near Rainier, Hwy 2, and the Mountain Loop Highway.

Pottery Wheel Lesson at Artist Studio
Each person gets 1 hour on the wheel! This experience is 2 hours for 2 people. If it's just you book for one person. If there are two, please book two slots.
The first 5 minutes of class I will give you a brief tour of the studio. You will get access to a local Portland artists’ studio and a chance to see behind the scenes of the artists’ process as well as works in progress. What is unique about this space is all of the residents are practicing artists and business owners. It is a great space to get a peek into the Portland art scene.
I will start the instruction by explaining the main principles of wheel throwing technique using visual aids. We will then move into the practical instruction. I will instruct you on centering the clay on the wheel, using the coning technique to prep the clay, and finally pulling the clay into its final form. You will have enough time to make between 1-2 pieces depending on what you choose to create. Some great first project ideas include: mug, bowl, etc. You might get muddy! Each students get 1 hour of instruction time.
Come with a strong vision in mind or we can create something unique together! The goal of this class is for you to leave with a solid knowledge of beginner wheel throwing technique

Mid-Day and Sunset Sails on Seattle's Majestic Puget Sound
There is a sense of magic in setting your sails, allowing the wind to carry you across water. I will gently encourage everyone to take a turn steering the boat, to feel the uniting force of wind and water. After all these years, I still find it enchanting.
We will leave the dock at Shilshole Bay Marina, motor out past the city’s famed Golden Gardens Park, watch for sea lions loafing on the Meadow Point buoy, and then set sail, heading West across Puget Sound toward the magnificent Olympic Mountains.
Along the way we will watch for orcas, schools of Dahl’s porpoises, sea lions, harbor seals, jumping salmon, bald eagles, great blue herons, cormorants, diving gulls, and other wildlife.
On the Sunset Cruise we will keep a careful watch as the sun sets behind the Olympic Mountains, for the resulting lightshow is something you will want to capture on camera. As the sun drops behind the well-named Mount Olympus and other peaks in the range, it often illuminates the feathery horizon clouds into glorious colors.
Join the Fun: Please don’t be shy about joining a cruise that already shows guests booked. It is always special when guests from different cities, states … and countries … come together to share this inspiring experience.
Whichever voyage you choose -- Morning, Afternoon, or Sunset -- it is always magical to fill the sails on the beautiful waters of Puget Sound.
Baby Goat Snuggles and Playtime
Play with baby Nigerian Dwarf goats, bond with horses, and learn about holistic animal caretaking practices.
Start off with a warm welcome from the resident farm pup, Izzy, before meeting the herd of twelve adult goats and going over best animal handling practices.
Next, play with the baby goats in a grassy meadow pen. Expect lots of goofy goat antics and selfie opportunities!
Post-playtime, you'll have the option to tour the farm and meet its resident horses -- maybe even give a treat to one of our foals! Learn how we take care of the animals and land as you tour our five acres.
This is a wonderful way to learn more about sustainable small-scale agriculture and spend time with these adorable creatures. Nigerian Dwarf goats may be small but they make up for it with their big personalities. They're incredibly curious, lovable, and intelligent, and as a bonus, their babies are the size of small cats! There's never a dull moment with these playful goats and this experience is a great way to unwind, relax, and feel a little more refreshed.
For safety reasons, we ask that you do not bring other animals with you to this experience.

Hiking with Goats
A guided hike through beautiful lake and mountain scenery, hosted by Pickles and Peanut, French Alpine goat brothers! Their "parents" come too, to ensure you are guided on the less-busy but still human-accessible trails.
On the two hour adventure we will:
- Meet at Grafton Lake parking area next to Grafton Road.
- Start with 10 minutes of intros and "Goat 101" to learn how to safely interact with Peanut and Pickles.
- Walk around the lake.
- Stop at viewpoints along the way, where we'll offer to take photos of you with the goats.
- End back where we started.
Private hike options include:
- Customized trail route such as up to the lookout in our main photo, or to cool natural tree forts!
- Special arrangements for a longer, more challenging hike to the summit of the iconic Mount Gardner.
A few considerations:
Families as well as dogs on leashes are welcome, but please note that Peanut and Pickles are still growing and their headbutt play behaviour may intimidate children and dogs.
You are welcome to request dates, but these will be considered "private hikes".
This adventure is "rain or shine"! The boys look adorable in their rain coats, so (pending a major storm) we'll enjoy whatever mother nature brings our way.
The boys can't wait to show you their beautiful backyard!
